EAD renewal and work

Hello guys,

The question I am about to ask may have been asked many many times but unfortunately I did not find it even after searching. Please pardon me if this bothers you.

My wife was on H4 and now she is working using EAD status. I am the primary and in the EB3 case.
Our current EADs are expiring near October end and we have applied for our EAD renewals. We are both wondering if our renewals will arrive before our current EADs expire.

Fortunately, I am still on my H1 status (same company).

My question is:
Can my wife continue working past her EAD expire date while she is waiting for the renewed EAD to arrive or does she have to take an unpaid leave from work while she waits for the renewal ?

I'll be very glad if someone can answer this for me (even if this has been answered somewhere, sometime before).

Regards,

Milind.

If your wife does not have a valid EAD in hand, then she cannot work. She will have to wait to receive her new EAD before she can resume work.

This situation is different from renewing a H1-B, which allows you to work after the H1-B is expired so long as the petition for the new one has been sent to USCIS.

But then what was that confusing rule about "allowed to work for 180 days..." ?

On the same lines, I have a similar question:
If for some un-forseen reason, my I-485 gets denied, how many days do I have to pack my bags and leave the country ?
