If you don't plan on leaving the country in the near future, do you think you should be renewing your AP? Which is a document that has nothing to do with your AOS and is meant only if you want to travel?
Though if you don't mind spending the money, I would advise you to renew the AP since emergency waits for no man and if you just HAVE to leave the country, then that is not the time to start worrying about getting an AP etc.
