EAD renewal after case transferred to local office

Hello,
My case was transferred to the local Denver office on Aug 12 '03. My 2nd EAD expires on Jan 02 '03.
According to my attorney, I do not need to apply for a renewal this far in advance and can get it done on a same day basis at the local office.
Is this true ?
My understanding was that once a case is transferred to the local office, I would still need to apply for renwal at the local office. I did not know they do not handle renewal application like the NSC does.
My attorney says I could go to the local office about 15-20 days before my EAD expires get my enw EAD the same day right there.
(That works great for me, I save on attorney fees). :p
But I just wanted to confirm this, not wanting to risk not getting my EAD in time.

Any expert opinions anyone ?

Thanks in advance.........

EAD After Xfer

EAD's are NOT issued on a walk-in basis UNLESS you have proof that you submitted an application and more than 90 days have passed since your RD.

You cannot just walk in and ask for an EAD just because your case has been Xferred and your current EAD is about to expire. you will be told to go back, file an application and return with proof that more than 90 days have passed since you filed.

I would strongly suggest that you discuss your EAD ASAP with an attorney of national repute (such as Mr. Khanna). I have got my EAD from Chicago and am not familiar with the Denver office. You need to file an application either with Denver or NSC. DO NOT wait around till 20 days before your expiry. My advice would be to get you app. filed at least 120 days in before your expiration date. Also, try and post on I485 issues/EAD and AP issues. See if Jaxen can point you in a better direction.

dfagen19,
I confirmed with my attorney , who has an excellent reputation regionally. He said the you CAN walk in to the Denver local office and get your EAD renewed, provided your case is being handled by the local office.
Please do take a look at the bcis.gov website and look up the local offices for their procedures on handling EAD renewal cases.

An excerpt from the website :

Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) (first time & renewals)
Applications for employment authorization (Form I-765) from adjustment of status applicants may be filed either in person or by mail at the Denver District Office.
If you are filing by mail, you will be given a scheduled appointment within approximately 30 days from time of filing. If you are filing in person, we try to issue cards on the same day you file your application.

All other applicants for employment authorization must refer to the instructions on Form I-765, to determine if their application should be filed at the Denver District Office or the Nebraska Service Center.

I guess it varies by office. You may still want to file early... Did not mean to attack your attorneys credibility, especially if he's local. he probably knows best.
