EAD Related

Hi,

My wife's EAD card (From GC) is valid till May 10, 2003. We already applied for renewal of her EAD (Jan 10th, 2003) at the Texas Service Center. At that time we got a receipt stating that her EAD would be processed in 80 day. But now, when I check using online case status, it says that processing EAD card is taking from 150 to 180 days.

Our problem is that my wife needs to start working from June 15th onwards for her Medical residency in Ohio. Also we both may have to move from Texas to Ohio. If she does not get her EAD on time, what is the best thing to do to get around this problem. I heard that INS issues temporary EAD cards for 3-months at local offices. Can we do that when we move to Ohio's local INS office.
And one more thing. If we do not receive the EAD after the temporary Card expires, what should we do?

Thanks a lot in Advance,

SVA

If you do not receive EAD approval for yourself and/or your wife within 90 days, you can go the local INS office, and they will provide a temporary card. But, I think you will receive your approvals within 90 days.

Hope this helps.

You should receive the EAD within 90 days. If not, then go to the nearest center for a temporary one.

In case you do make it in the timeframe ie. 15th June when your wife has to work, please be patient with this stupid process. Do not let her work. Uder the circumstances, try to convince her to 'volunteer' rather than work during this period.

The rewards for not working are far greater than taking a chance of working without authorization...

Thanks...
