EAD question

My EAD will expire at the end of the May04. If applied for EAD renewal in Jan04 and they approve it in Mar04, will the 1 year validity start from May04 or March04 ?

Is it enough to apply say 4 months in advance that way if your EAD don't get approved after 3 months you can always go and get interim EAD after 90 days.

How long before his current EAD expires one should apply for EAD renewal ?

Would be from May 04 as I know from a couple of people.
