Hi,

My EAD recently got approved in Jan\'2001.

At this stage, I am not sure if I am working on EAD or H1B - Can someone please give their advice?.

Is it true that one has to fill the I-9 form to switch to EAD ?

Thanks,
dgap

By applying for EAD, you gave up your H-1B status. You can still travel on your H-1B visa, if valid, but your status is now AOS. Good luck. Highhope123

Just by applying for EAD, you do not give up your H1 status. You give it up only in either of the following 2 cases -

1. You take up another job using your EAD

 OR

2. You re-enter United States using your Adv Parole.

So, it is always better to apply for EAD as soon as you are eligible to, which is right after you file your i-485. And yes, you can fill in an i-9 form right away to switch to EAD if you want to. But there is no clear advantage of doing that if you still carry a valid H1.
