Ead/opt?

Our Attorney filed I140 and I485 concurrently for me and my husband, who is under F-1 status. His EAD card just arrived(valid until Nov 2003).
I have several questions:
1. What's his status right now? Still F-1?
2. Do you guys think he can still apply OPT when he graduates this June? (which will be valid until 06/2004).

I am not sure of the F1 status after EAD. I don't think one can apply for OPT after getting an EAD. I was in a similar situation and the attorney told me to choose one (EAD through 485 OR EAD thru OPT - I couldn't apply for both).
