They want us to do even earlier now ? .....

Wow that's kool. I think it should be for 2 years and then reneval should be applied a year ahead. This way it will be easy and good for all :)

Or they can allow multiple eads to be applied same time for subsequent years.. and provide some bulk discounts.....buy 2 get one free...

This is ridiculous. My EAD expires on March 2007. I lost 2 months from my previous EAD.

Based on this I should send my EAD renewal paperwork immediately. I HATE THIS !!!!!

Can it be worse?

The as-yet-undocumented rule could be:

You get one shot to ask for EAD. If you think you need EAD for 2 years, please apply for 2 years now. OTOH, if you think you might need EAD for 4 years, please do so now. Once applied for, there can not be any more adjustments.

Result?

Most of us would apply for 6 years .. or more.

Money for USCIS. Less work too. You and I are doomed.

Disclaimer : I am applying for the 6th EAD .. you may be luckier if you get through after 1 or 2.

EAD-Monster on the loose?

If the EAD requirement of applying for an extension six months in advance is true, then I have the EAD monster on the loose chasing me, and may become my newest nightmare.

After sending in paperwork for renewal exactly 95 days before the expiry of the current one, the D**kheads at USCIS sat on it for about ten days, then finally sent a I-797C notice stating that they have received my application.

Then, three weeks later, biometrics followed and then the "usual" blackhole. Now, less than five days remain on my current EAD and no news, sign etc.

It is a business model for USCIS to keep it's customers hanging, suspended, waiting with bated breath till the last minute. They have perfected this business model and continue to hone it. In any other government agency/organisation, there is a policy/process for redressal of your grief/complaints, but not so in this HIGH PEDESTAL of HOLIER-THAN-THOU, you-can't-touch-me agency.

Yes, there is a lot of mixed information out there, whether or not one can continue to work after an expired EAD and the new one is still being processed. If one continues to work, that may be enough reason for the Devil to deny your I-485 etc. etc.

Before you suggest INFOPASS, that's exactly what happened at the last renewal, and certainly means the BIG headache of driving 180 miles in this nasty cold/snowy weather, taking time-off from work (giving weird excuse to the boss) and just dealing with the hassle.

What in the world are the dumbwits doing that they cannot process a simple, single EAD application, of an applicant that they have on the record for ten years (I bet they know every goddamn thing about me by now, I'm sure). Then, what "other" information they are checking, need to verify?

Working myself for the government, I am amazed how these MOFO's have taken inefficiency and indolence to NEW and UNPARALLELED heights.

Sorry if I seem to vent, but these morons do have one single ability; to test our limits of patience and forbearance, and then slowly nudge us on the cliff of despair and hopelessness.

There is no reason to believe that this entire agency is any better than a third-world intransparent, inconsistent and unreliable bureaucracy.

where does it say EAD is valid for 2 years??

My EAD expiring on 02 Feb 2007. I efiled on 01/05/2007  . Biometrics is scheduled for 26 Jan 2007. Can anyone please share info on how long does it to take for approval in VSC after Biometrics.

2 yr?

Where did anyone see the 2 yr extension, or for that matter the multi year extension. If this were allowed then I suppose it is reasonable. I hate the current 9 monthly ritual and would gladly pay something reasonable to get a multi year EAD.
Without that provision this would be ridiculous. Apply too early and you are screwed by an early approval that will render your EAD valid for just 6 months(my last 2 were approved within 2 weeks). Apply too late and risk unauthorised work and or having to get fired/stay off the job.
All this just weeks after they removed the ability to get an emergency 90 day EAD at the local field offices if they delayed more than 90 days.

EAD news

GCDerby

I don't know if this timeline will apply to everybody, but my wife had her EAD (4th) Biometric appointment on Jan 6th and her EAD was approved on Jan 12th (VSC) and we received her card yesterday. My biometric was done on Jan 12th and waiting for approval.

The surprise came along with the EAD card was the validity dates. Our current EAD expires in April 07 and we applied our EADs in Dec 06. The new ead for my wife is valid from April 07 till April 08.Exactly 1 year validity......no date overlapping which was causing us to apply every 9 months. Isn't this great.....I hope this is the new process in USCIS for EADs. Offcourse multi year EAD is the best but this is not bad either.

Hope this helps.

Good luck everybody.

alterego2, did you say "they removed the ability....more than 90 days"? I have heard of that too but when I went to USCIS.GOV and was going through the EAD renewal information section, sure enough it mentioned that one can go through INFOPASS at the local district office and get their EAD renewal at the end of 90 days, if USCIS has not made a decision on their case yet. To that affect, I'm now scheduling an appt. and plan to travel 180 miles, take off from work, give some silly excuse to the boss, brave a possible snow storm etc. etc.

Regardless of the situation, they will get you, one way or another. I have had two instances too where they "ATE" time off my current duration, once they "ate" six months of OPT and once three months of EAD or H1-B...

Sometimes I wish I could whip these buggers :)

Its funny and frustrating because once I applied my EAD little over 4months before my EAD expires and they denied saying I cannot apply before 120days of my EAD expriring date. And they ate my $180. Now USCIS is telling to file 6months before EAD expiration dates.....Suckers!!!

EADs from service centers only.

That would be great news indeed, if it is true. We need to hear a few more cases like this before we know this for sure. So anyone who gets their EADs renewed, please post their experience. I have had 2 renewals and lost about 3 months each time. So technically I am renewing every 9 months. My lawyers fee for it is $1000 per husband and wife, for the EAD/AP. This is excluding the filing fees. Add it all up and you can see it comes up toover 1500 bucks and the hassle factor. Per 9 months this is a stealth tax.

Yes, they have done away with the interim EADs at the local service centers. They will still give you an infopass apt. and they will still take your request, but they will then forward it to the service center for the interim document. They no longer have the actual machines that produce the interim EADs at the local offices. The reason given was some concern about fraud.
So the law that they have to give you an interim document still stands but it is being implemented differently, and not to our benefit.

Thats just a suggestion to apply 180 days in advance, so that u get ead in time. My company always tells us to file 150 days in advance. I will apply 100 days before my current one expires.

Don't count on 100 days unless if u r not using EAD.

100 days is not enough.....its pretty scary if one is using EAD...... i will not hesitate to apply every 180 days........even if they keep eating my money........afterall $180/6 months, an hour of paperwork, couple of hours to get biometrics done..............is nothing in the grand scheme of things...

This is a matter of grave concern then...

That would be great news indeed said:
If what you said above is true and factual, then I may be wasting my time driving 180 miles in this nasty weather to request an intermin EAD. Not only do I drive that far, I also take a personal day (which could have been used for a real and valid reason, not wasted because of USCIS incompetence), and maybe not even get the interim EAD.

Wonder where does that leave me in terms of legal matters? If my EAD expires on Wednesday per se, and I don't have a renewal card from USCIS, and the district office does not issue an interim card, do I become illegal on Thursday? Do I stop working until I hear something from USCIS? Or do I continue working as if nothing has happened, and wait for the card anyway?

See, how these questions and concerns impact our daily lives, affect our peace of mind, and distract us from other, more important matters...

Technically, there is not one good reason why USCIS will not process a renewal card within 90 days of filing, other than a deliberate vile attempt to harass ordinary people. Whether they randomly pick on people, or just mark some people is an unknown to me. I know that I have found myself in a limbo yet again, and it feels like deja vu all over again...

Mine 3rd EAD just got approved after having applied in late December. The one I have now expires in May; I wonder if they will steal 4 months by making the new one expire next January.
