I would like to share my current experience of EAD. My EAD (1st year) expires on April 08. Last year i surfed around the USCIS website and found out that we could renew 6months before due to expiration. November 7th 2007 i renew and paid the fee ($340 which i thought the fee incresed ridicously) online. Weeks later i received confirmation letters such as receipt, fingerprints notice, etc. Then i done everything until i seen the status on the "case status" section which shows "notice of approval had been sent on dec 18th. Which i assumed the card itself had been sent. Exactly the same as my 1st card. I waited and waited till January 08 never received the card. I thought December was the busiest moments for mailing as it is Xmas month. I called up the customer service 18003755283 on Jan 22nd and reported the matter. They said a request of investigation would be taken. And also they asked me an alternate address which they could contact me and i did tell them.
Later on late Feb, i received a letter addressed to "the alternate add which i gave them when i spoke to them", the letter says that my application of EAD had been approved and sent and it had not been sent back to them as undeliverable. And it says i could re-apply for it BUT have to pay the fee AGAIN. Honestly i need the EAD card is because to extend my driver license as my DL expiration is based on the validity of the EAD. Then i made an INFOPASS appointment and visit the office. Tell them the whole situation i was frustated about. guess what they respond? they couldnt do anything about it and they ask me to complain to USPS. can you guys believe that? Finally i did ask them for a letter which the least shows the validity of my EAD, they gave it to me. So i used that precious $340 letter to renew my DL in DMV.
