EAD/lay off/H1 status question

Folks,
      I have a tricky situation, I am loosing my job at the end of June as my contract comes to
    an end. The question I have is

    1) I have applied for EAD and am waiting for it, can I start using my EAD while the application
    is still pending.

    2) Does anyone know how long it takes to get an EAD at Vermont service center.

    3) Will I go out of status if I do not receive my EAD when my company lays me off at the end of June.

EAD is nothing to do with out of status...

As per my understanding,

1. Once you file I485, you can stay with out any out of status fear, till INS decide on your application.

2. If you don\'t have EAD, you cannot work leagally, with out a valid H1B.

You are in status if you have an I-485 pending.

Without EAD (after you lose H-1), you can not work.

local ins office

you can go to local INS office and get your EAD if you want it ASAP. You don\'t have to wait for it...Please call your local office for more details.
Don\'t worry and everything will be OK ...
