Could somebody please shed the light in EAD application in Newark office? How long it takes through local office, or it is better to go to VSC directly?

I am also in the same boat. I spoke with INS central customer service office. They told me to file in the office where 485 was filed. Means VSC. Mine is renewal case. And also it is clearly mentioned in the application form that we have to file in the 485 processing center.
