EAD - F1 Question

My wife is on EAD and is planning to attend school. Does she need to be on F1 to attend school?
We are planning to apply for loan and sometimes it seems that the bank may ask for I-20. Is it ok to apply for one or does her status change to F1 by applying for I20?

Please try to answer if any one has some knowledge about it as this is may not be the right thread to post?

Thanks

your dependent is allowed to attend school as long EAD is valid.
one cannot have two status at the same time.

Don't make the mistake of having her change to F1 after having applied for the I-485. That can screw up her green card process because F1 requires nonimmigrant intent.

She can attend school with an H4, or in I-485 pending status (EAD is not required if she will not work). When in that status, she would not be classified as an international student, and the bank should not ask for I-20 (tell the bank she is a legal resident, not an international student, and provide the H4 or EAD or other evidence). Some states will even allow paying in-state tuition with H4 or I-485, provided that other criteria such as living in the state for 1 year have been met.
