My initial EAD (not renewal) got approved on Nov-21. I had filed on Oct-21, RD on notice form is Oct-25, my check cleared on Oct-31.

I have filed my I-485 back in Jan-2002, but the company lawyer did not apply for an EAD, because my H1B is valid until end of next year. I decided to apply for an EAD on my own after the company had laid off a few people. I thought it is better to be 'prepared' than to be 'surprised'. I filed it without a lawyer and I didn't tell the company lawyer about it (he doesn't care anyhow).

Does anyone know how long it takes for the EAD card to arrive in the mail?

If only they applied the same speed to everything else and people wouldn't be complaining so much. EAD and AP have improved significantly but it's no consolation if your 485 has been pending for close to a year if they renew EAD so quickly :D

Well .. by nature, EAD is temporary. The INS can revoke it as they wish, or if the I-485 is denied.
On the other hand, the decision on I-485 is permanent, unless there's some extreme violation in laws, etc...that justifies INS to revoke the green card.
So the INS wants to make sure that their I-485 decision is based on a thorough review, hence the delay :)

My EAD renewal was approved in 4 weeks, by the way...
