EAD Approval and Question on SSN#

I just got an e-mail about my Wife EAD approval from my Attorney and also it has been updated on USCIS web site

Current Status: Card production ordered.

On September 26, 2007, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

Now can I call SSA (Social Securiy Administration) and apply for her SSN# or do I have to wait till we received the card on hand? Please let me know if you know about the process.

You should bring the card with you to the SSA office - you also cannot simply call. For first time applicants, they must appear in person at your local SS office... barring some types of cases.

Thanks much - I just to SSA local office and the lady said go there with the EAD Card, I-94 and passport.
