EAD and AP

Hey Guys,

Finally my PD became current. I was talking to my attorney for 485 filing, she told me, the attorney fee for filing EAD and AP is $800 per applicant. I was wondering, if I can file this myself after I get the 485 receipt. I am not in a rush to get the EAD as I still have more than 2 years on my H1.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

yes, absolutely you can!

In fact, it has become very common to apply for EAD and AP by yourself without using an Attorney. Not only it empowers you and keeps you involved in the process, it saves you enough money to buy an air-ticket to your home country for vacation.

Just do your homework and research and have all necessary documents prepared to use for EAD or AP. Online filing seems to be the most common, though it takes a few tries getting used to USCIS' online application forms.

Some people worry that USCIS may screw them with RFE's or some other question that they don't know. In a worst case scenario, enlist the services of your attorney at an hourly rate for an hour or two to sort things out.

However, if your company is paying for all the renewals etc. I'd say go for it and get the top attorney who bills at $300/hr. I mean, why not?

Thanks for the quick reply. My company won't pay for it. I will wait 6 more months and then decide on it.
