EAD and AP renewal

My H1 will be expiring in April 2004, and my EAD in August 2003. But my employer, as a cost cutting measure, will not file for my and my wifes renewal of the EAD or AP before six months of H1 expiry. If I want to renew the EAD/AP then I have to pay myself. My question is: is it fine to wait and later file the EAD, as anyway I am not using it? will it have problem in my GC processing, since anyway I have H1? or should I file it myself? is there any benefit?

Renew it

Having EAD is no harm. Think about this, if your employer fires (hopefully not) you, you have to file another H1 to join different company. But if you need to join a full time position at a client then your EAD will be handy.
