You do not need an EAD, to get a Social. To get a social, you need to show that it is required for her to have a social to live in US.
Like, School enrollement, Working, Driving, and tax excempts etc.
In earlier times, School requires a social for a kid to enroll, which can be used to acquire a social. I believe in 1995, they changed the law stating non-immigrants can have a social only if they are employed, or going for a drivers license and for others they provide you with a TIN. I believe lately if you need just a social for only drivers licencse, they only provide you with a TIN. You can apply for a Tin numbr for your kid.

Thanks samUsam, actually I like to get a SSN# rather than TIN# for my 10 years old daughter. We are on the adjustment of status state and waiting for the approval. In many places they ask for the SSN#. My question is whether she can get the SSN# with I-485 receipt notice or she has to apply for EAD.

Neither
SamUsam\'s reply is pretty clear. She can\'t get one unless you convince the department the need of a SSN# for your daughter. In many places they ask for SSN# , but your daughter will not get denied anything because she don\'t have an SSN#. You can ask the them to provide you with a letter saying that your daughter needs a SSN# for the purpose you have approached them to. TIN is sufficient for your tax purpose. With a I485 receipt you can\'t apply for SSN and she is not eligible to apply for an EAD. After you stamp your passport , you can show the stamp to get a SSN#.
