E-2 to H1-B

Hi there,

I have been working for almost four years here in the USA on a E-2 visa. I’m on contract with the company in my home country and they placed me at the US customer jobsite. Now they want to change my visa to an H1-B, being sponsored by the US-based part of my company.
The question is, do I need to get a new contract with the US-based part of my company and be on their payroll or can I still be on contract with my home country based company and be paid by them?
I understand if this question sounds “stupid”, but my company believes I can still remain on the home country contract and be paid by them as well. I believe I need to get a contract with the company that sponsored me for the H1-B, the US based part of my company and also receive my pay from them. This would have impacts on my Social Security, taxes, healthcare and other related subjects.
