Hi everyone, im a selectee im a selectee! :)

so my forms arrived may1, sent them back 3 weeks later via DHL

with a number as low as <1000, i suspect ill be up fairly sharpish!

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_4231.html
shows <1500 as being 'current numbers in JUNE

question1.
is it realistic to believe ill get a 2nd letter shortly/this month?

question2. i take it the next stage begins in October, so
equally, its realistic to believe that the 2nd letter will be to advise me of a appointment date in Oct+ -- correct?

question3. im in switzerland, altho with OC as my region - they included a 'swiss authorities/police checks' form in the first package -
Ill get a swisspolice report (been here over 1 year)
--> do i need a police record for every place ive lived at (when each place was for a period greater than 6m?) (that sounds DAUNTING if its true)

quesiton4. lets 'suppose' my interview is in Oct or Nov - as the visa is 'valid' (temporary one) for 6months initially, I suppose if asked 'when do you plan to move to the us?' my answer should not be later than saying 'by the end of May next year'

thank you very much everyone!

freestyler damn. wrong sig... err c92081 (hehe)

Yeah, but this is in JUNE... The year starts in October and if you start looking at the bulletins starting in October 2007 you see that you will have to wait a couple months.

Definitely not. Even if you would have your interview in October, you would not receive the letter till probably September (it's typically between 2 and 6weeks before the interview).

That really depends on your number... if it is below 300, then probably (numbers for the OC region progress very slowly).

You need a police report for every country in which you lived longer than 12 months after you have turned 16 (with the exception of the US): http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1308.html. The report from Switzerland can be ordered online or at the post office (that's new). I got mine after about a week so you shouldn't order that until you know when your interview is. In other countries, however, it can take a couple months till you receive the report so you should find out where it takes how long (the report should not be older than 6months at the time of the interview).

If it's just a little later than 6months, I really don't think it matters. Just tell them that you will do an "activation trip" before that. However, it really doesn't matter what you answer to this question (I mean: you don't have to prove that you really planning on moving soon).

hey thanks igmu - i appreciate you taking the time to research and answer my questions

ok so i goofed when reading http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_4231.html
-> that comment about <1500 for OC for JUN is for ...dv2008

right, so well my number is less than 1000, so its still low, so i suppose plan for something round oct/nov - with a 2nd letter to confirm this round aug/sept maybe

i better get cracking on my police reports, i suppose ill have to order all of them
(lots of countries) ''now'' in order to ''time'' how long it will take - for the 'quick ones' if they then need redoing closer to the time , so be it

and for the 'slow ones' i suppose they will come back just 'in the nick of time' :)

You're welcome. For some countries, e.g. Switzerland, you can order the report online and there it says how long it usually takes. So you should first check that and then order now the ones that will take longer and then later the ones that will be done quicker.
Btw: It took me a while too to realize that the lottery year starts in October and lasts till September...
Once you see that your number is current in the advanced notification section of the bulletin, you should wait a few days and then contact KCC either by email or phone and they will tell you the date of your interview, if one has been scheduled for you. This way you know your interview date before you receive the second letter (which sometimes arrives really late).

Police Certificates

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit concerned about my Police Certificates now.

The instructions in my NL package advised that I start obtaining my documents as soon as possible (except for my Australian Police Certificate which should be applied for when the second package arrives?).

So I excitedly applied for both my British & Canadian Police Certificates as I'd heard stories of these taking months to process. Well my British Police Certificate has already arrived so I would expect my Canadian one to arrive not too far away as well.

Igmu mentioned that the report should not be older than 6 months at the time of the interview. My British certificate is dated May, 2008 but my interview should not be until December or even January next year.

Have I jumped the gun and obtained my certificates too early? I thought the more organised the better but I guess you can be too organised (or maybe too eager ).

Thanks everyone!

Dave.

I don't know whether there is a general rule about how old the police certificate can be. Some say it's 6months, others 12months. I assume that since your certificate will not be much older than 6months, you could probably explain to the officer that you followed the instructions in the NL and that you were told that for those countries it usually takes a long time (it would be nice to have a printout from an official website stating that). However, the officer probably doesn't even ask...
I have read from others in this forum that they were in exactly the same situation as you, but I don't know how their interview went.
Maybe someone else has more official information about this issue.

Thanks heaps for your help Igmu!

I'd be keen to hear how old other people's interviews went with older police certificates so I think I'll start a new thread to see if I have any luck.

Thanks again,

Dave.

davefromoz - r u staying in HNL? :)

we had our interview in BERN in july (we have since arrived in miami got GC, and got the cards 10 days later!!!) can u dig it??

anyways, during my interview my heart dropped when....

Sir, you have police certs for Australia, UK, US-u-dont-need, but you say you lived in Canada half way thru your 16th birthday... do you have one for Canada

WTF

What

The

Fcuk

!!!!

:: thankfully it was 'that long ago' - on the cusp of still being a minor that it didnt become a concern!

((i frantically looked at my timeline... turns out on the form listing places of residence, i in fact could explain those 4-5 months because in actuality i was in hawaii at the time but it didnt come to that

bottom line people --

the forms questions when your filling them out are slightly tricky!

ie

the question as i 'read it' was 'where have you lived since age 16+

the subsequent section about 'get police certs for past 10 years

well.. did it say that? ((i could have sworn it said that, but....

see what im getting at? questions LEND themselves to other questions and instructions
just make sure you cross check stuff in a very LITERAL sense

peace out
