DV2009 - forms sent for me but thinking of getting married

Hi,

I got my NL in May and filled out the forms and sent them back.

Issue is I need my long term girlfriend (7+ years) to come over with me and we are looking into getting married later this year now.

When we do can I contact KCC and get her onto my application and us both get greencards?
Whats the deadline for getting a spouse added to the application?

Will her being on my application reduce my chances of getting the GC or make no difference or will there still be the possibility that i will get it and not her?
We well over exceed the requirements and have no problems records or anything and have good propects for good jobs etc.

Please read my experience post, or my "general info" post. (see my signature). There are also a lot of cases already posted on that subject, so please read through them.

As of now you are not married, so she won't be on your applications.
You have to get married before your interview at the consulate/ embassy. (I assume you are doing CP). If you could get married before your number would be current, you would have thge time to notify KCC so that they would update their records, and directly send the invitation letter to the consulate with both your names. Otherwise, you would have to deal with the consulate directly.

Some people have been asked to prove that it was a "true" marriage, not just for the GC. That is the risk if you win as single and show up married.
But from recent experiences (and even mine from 3 years ago), it seems that they do not check that anymore.

You would need to bring the same documents for her too: birth, police,...

Thanks. It was more the affect it has on my application and the issue of me getting it and her still not getting it that i could not find an answer on

Once you are married and you send your updated forms to KCC they will automatically offer a visa to both of you.

We were married approximately 8 months before our interview (husband is primary applicant) and he sent his updated forms indicating he was now married, and I sent my application forms with his stuff, but our notification letter had only his name on it. We had to fax my information to the US Consulate just a couple of weeks before the interview to ensure they had me included - very stressful! But it all worked out and we were both issued visas in May this year.

We had heaps of stuff to prove we had been together for 10 years but they didn't ask for any of it, but I was glad to have it there just in case.
