DV-Lottery picture checker not accurate?

Just for your information;

I have been applying for 4 years so far with no luck, fortunately I have a plan B and the American company I work for in Europe has applied for a L1-A visa for me which has been granted :). I went to set the appointement to the local American Embassy web site to get the visa, and I had to fill an automatic form for my case where a digital picture was being asked...this is where the story of this post begins.. guess what? The interface to load the picture was very simmilar to the one shown when applying for the lottery, so I used the same pictures for me and my spouse as the ones we used for the 2013 lottery (which we did not win).

MY SPOUSE'S WAS REJECTED BECAUSE "IT DID NOT FULFILL WITH THE MINIMUM STANDARDS OF QUALITY", the form was claiming that the picture was very dark, bla bla

Well, this picture was however accepted by the DV-Lottery image checker and by the 3rd party web site that checks it for you and many of us used.. the picture is in perfect shape, dimensions, etc.. and the darkness is just because of the clothing she was wearing..

So.. I just found out that my wife's application was a loser since the very begining because of the picture and the "checker" did not say a word...

Just for your information ...

I didn't think the DV photo checker was that sophisticated. I thought it only checked things like size and resolution. I once submitted a photo of my dog and it came back and said it was fine. Perhaps they've recently upgraded the photo checker to give better feedback which would be a useful thing if it does.

It might not necessarily have been your photos that was the cause of you not getting selected. I entered the DV 9 times before I got selected. Pure luck.
