DV Lottery help please

Hi everyone,
I really hope this is the correct place to post. I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out what to do but I can’t and would love to get some advice on here. Me and my fiancé are looking to apply for DV lottery 2022 and we are getting married on 8th October. The problem is that I am from an eligible country whereas he isn’t. We have decided to wait to apply after we are married and have our legal marriage certificate which will also mean that he will then be allowed to apply too as he will legally be my spouse and claim my birth country as the eligible country. My name will legally change the minute I marry him but my passport will be in my maiden name and I cannot get a new passport issued and have it arrived before the lottery ends. My only options are
1) Use my new married surname which is LEGALLY now my name on the application and still use my old passport with my maIdem name on it. (My only issue is that if we do win, I will have a new passport by then with my married surname on and therefore the passport used for the visa Will be different to the one used for the application)
2) use my maiden name on the application because this is what matches my passport.

Thanks so much guys!!

You actually only have one option, which is to use the name on your passport at the time of entry. Anything else will disqualify you. IF you get selected, you can then update your case with your new name and passport. Keep the old one to show them that it was a valid passport at the time of entry.

Hi Susie,
thank you for the answer, that clears it up for us! So based on what you said, am I now correct in thinking the following:
1. Apply with maiden name (name on the passport)
2. Use ‘married’ as marital status
3. My spouse can still apply and claim my country of birth?
In terms of keeping the passport to prove that my entry was valid... my embassy does NOT let citizens keep their old passports when they renew. What does this mean? Would a picture or a scan of the passport be enough to prove that I didn’t make up my passport number, etc.?

Then make a photocopy of the biographic details page.
Don’t overthink based on a last name. Answer the questions as they are asked, and truthfully. Yes of course you are married (if you actually are by then), for example.
