DV 2007 Season begins soon!

Dear DV2007 participants,

I am just starting this thread to begin tracking any developments in DV 2007 program. It appears that this may be the last DV program since various bills introduced in the Senate propose to end the DV lottery program as of this year. A final comprehensive immigration reform bill is supposed to be introduced in the Senate in early february and discussion on the bill should begin soon. House has already passed a immigration bill last year. Should this bill pass and section which eliminates DV program survive, DV 2007 will be the last and with that will die hopes and dreams of many people around the world of coming to this land of opportunity.

On a seperate note, I know that normally winners aren't notified until the end of March but please feel free to express any opinions or predictions you may have with regard to when winners will be notified, about the future of the DV program, or anything else relate to the DV program.

This is my 7th year applying for DV and I just hope that I win this year.

Well, I believe it's better to know what's coming your ways and be prepared for it than living in the fantasy land and being happy by ignoring or not knowing the reality at hand. I know it might get lot of people worried including me but the fact of the matter is that it may come true. Until then I just hope that DV continues until eternity.

I don't like to give bad news to people, but if H.R. 4437 makes it trough the Senate (with the amendment 650 which eliminates the DV-Lottery), even the DV-2007 program will be canceled. H.R. 4437 would become law on October 1st 2006 ...

Yes I think you are correct here .. we have to wait and see

You may be right but for some reason I still believe that DV-2007 winners should be safe since DV-2007 actually started in 2006. The reason it is called DV-2007 is because that's the fiscal year all the DV visas are issued. I don't know if it explicitly states anywhere that DV-2007 will be affected and I have my doubts about State Department suddenly stoping something when all the winners would have already received their 1st letter. I guess we just have to wait and see.

I strongly believe the DV 2007 winners will not be affected, more so if the winners have been notified b4 the law becomes effective, otherwise it means the law is retroactive. I am a not a lawyer either and i am not just been positive, but i think there is a moral basis here.

The effective date of the amendment 650 to H.R. 4437 (elimination of diversity visa program) is October 1, 2006. do u think the senate will change it (possibly make it earlier)? Definitely if nothing of such happens, u will still be given ur visa........ or what do u think D EU WIN? Though i still think even dv2007 will still have their way, there may not be any other thereafter.
