DV-2007: Any body who has similar Experience

Dawit

New Member
I am DV-2007 Winner from Eritrea. I posted my questions yesterday regarding my status complication.

I got my asylum few days ago and I also won DV. I want to take the DV option because it is much quicker to get your GC than getting it thru asylum.
So I was wondering if some one has any of such experience and wants to share with me. I do not know how to proceed this process as an asylee. I am F-1 Student and I have not changed my status yet because I got my asylum few days ago.

Please any body who has experience or thoughts on this.

Thank you all.

Hi Dawit,

The question is whether your case number is high or low and in what region, and I guess you would be doing AOS. So, with AOS there is no guarantee of anything, especially if you get caught up in the background check maze. My number for instance was current last year in October, I filed in October and I'm still waiting for my GC!!! And I'm not alone in this. My point is with DV there are some limitations, first of all the 30 Sept deadline, beyond which we cannot go. With asylum based AOS it might take a long time but as far as I know it's a sure thing. You would be able to work and travel while waiting for your permanent GC. Think about it. If you were doing CP it would be different, but since you've been approved for filing for asylum I guess going back to your country is out of the question.
Another thing, I'm not sure 100% but I think an individual can file multiple AOS. Call USCIS ans ask them, this is probabbly what I would do. It would cost twice as much, tons of extra paperwork, but this way if the DV application is processed quickly you can celebrate, if it gets stuck you can continue with the Asylum application and celebrate a little later.

Good luck to you

Barbara
