Duplicate naturalization certificate

I understand that after the oath ceremony we get a naturalization certificate. Is there any way to get 2 naturalization certificates? i.e. is it possible to request an additional certificate?
The reason I ask is that for applying for US passport we have to submit the original naturalization certificate. So while that is gone - we donot have any proof of citizenship (except a photocopy of the naturalization certificate). So I am trying to see if there is any way (even if it involves paying a fee) to get an additional naturalization certificate.

Yes, it hurts to mail that Natz Cert away to the Dept of State. Rest assured, they give it back as soon as they are finished with it.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a duplicate cert. I'm guessing the USCIS doesn't do that.

Our entire family paid extra for the "expedited processing" of our passports so as to minimize the time while the certificate was out of our hands.
