Does anyone have any experience applying for US citizenship after being convicted with one DUI? Are there any problems/delays/denials?

Thank you.

I do not have any experience personally. I mentioned that I had a traffic citation at time of interview, and the IO was immediately interested in knowing if it was related to DUI or Reckless driving. So, a lawyer is advisable.

I would say wait till it is 5 yrs from the arrest.Even though the chances of denial are not high, better not to take a chance.

My best friend was arrested on the "laest" charge of DUI in 2001, filed for naturalization in 2004 and was denied due to "lack of moral character" in august of last year 2005. DUI's are really tricky, and she has conatcted an attorney who adviced her to wait until 5 years after CONVICTION (not arrest) to file.
I would not even attempt it without talking to an immigration attorney first, it could be a waste of the $390 application fee...... Good Luck
