Dual FP Notices

I received my FP notice on 4/5, with an appt date of 4/22, 8:00 AM. I did a walk-in on 4/9, and got the FP done. Today (4/12) I received a second FP notice in the mail, with an appt date of 4/22, 11:00 AM. Does this mean that my walk-in FP was not valid and needs to be re-done?
Couple of weird observations:
  • The second FP notice, even though is a 797C, is not identical in form to the first one. For example, the first one said Biometrics Notification at the top, this new one says ASC Appointment Notice at the top.
  • The notice date on the first one is 4/2 (which ties out to the status website), the notice date on the second one is 3/29.

Anybody have any idea what's going on?

I have the identical issue that you have, and I'm thinking to go to the application center with both letters.

Yea, thats what I was planning to do as well - go in on the 22nd. I was hoping that I didnt have to go in, but I think its better to play it safe. Now, if the online status changes before then, I will have to reconsider.

Both notices were issued before you went for biometrics on 4/9, so the duplicate has nothing to do with whether your fingerprints were readable and valid.

That's a good point Jack...got to mention though that the mailing date (stamp on the envelope) on the second notice was 4/10 (the next day after the FP appt).
Thiking about it a little more, is it even possible that the prints would not be valid? If it were not valid, wouldn't they know right there and then at the FP appointment? And the fact that this notice was mailed the very next day, I am now thinking that it was probably just a duplicate notice.

i'm planning to go to the service center tomorrow around noon, i'll let you know about my experience

I'm writing this from the ASC, the officer said "it's the same thing" and he also checked the system just make sure everything is ok.
, I hope your situation is same as mine

Same here!

Same happened to me and I called the hotline to clarify. I've done my walk in on 4/5/13 and am in line for inteview since 4/8/13. The second notice was received yesterday and was dated two days later than the first one but was mailed out 2 days after my biometrics were in the system and approved. I was told I don't have to go back and should wait for my interview letter.

If your biometrics are/were illegible the process will be delayed significantly. They can tell you right away during your appointment if something does not match (you have a scar etc. ) and will ask you to come back. Now, if something is wrong after prints were sent out, you'll wait a while until you hear back from them. I was told that the second letter was sent because of a mistake made for everyone who had received biometrics notice between 4/17/13 and May first. Not sure the second date, just remember 4/17/13.
Now, the funny part is that the second notice provides much less info and also shows my address with missing number (entire line of my address is missing). Not to mention that it was received a day before the scheduled date and a week after the online update shows me in line for interview since I did walk in right after receiveing the first notice.

On another note, since I filed N-400, I have received only one email (initial receipt) that's all. I think lots of you mentions an email following each update. The hotline officer was not able to confirm what the correct procedure is. I did submit signed form for both text and e-mail. Can someone please clarify. I'll just keep checking my status online everyday, I sure don't want to miss my interview.
