Dual File issue, How long USCIS takes to make the decision

Hello all,

We were interviewed yesterday on my wife's I-485 application in Atlanta. I thought that we will be approved yesterday as her I-130 was already approved last year before we had even filed I-485 application for her. Unfortunately, USCIS was looking for I-130 file and now since there are 2 files involved, the IO informed us that they have to look for the missing file to merge them. It's a dual file isse. The interview went very well infact but unfortunately =we were told that we will be notified in the mail regarding GC approval.

Has anyone gone thru this experience before? Please post your experience & more importantly the timleline would be a big help. This way I will get an idea on how big of a issue this is. Is this a matter of days, weeks or months for this dual file issue to be resolved? I was just wondering if the IO will work on it right away to get this finished or it will just sit on somebody's desk and collect dust for weeks or months.

Thank you.

This issue of having dual files and consolidate them before making a decision is an on-going issue with USCIS for a very long time. Nobody can say for sure how long it would take for USCIS to receive those files...and even if they would receive them on time, yet still no guarantee when a decision will be made. Sometime interviewing officer goes on vacation or gets busy in handling current cases or etc...Normally, it shouldn't take more than a week for one office to get other files on the same applicant from other offices, but the question is-will they be able to make a decision right away after receiving the file, or those files will just stay under the dust somewhere???

Not to disappoint you, but there have been 3 cases reported 3 yrs ago on citizenship forum on the same situation. In one case, applicant waited for 7 months for his another file to be consolidated. He made numerous attempts by himself to get this done by contacting both offices. While in other two cases, they were able to get the result within a month and 3 months.

Nevertheless, I don't think it would take that long.

Thank you

Thanks JC for your quick response. I will keep you all posted with my situation and sorry for posting the same question on this other thread "US Citizenship". I am glad you went ahead & closed it.
