Dual Citizenship

I have seen many posts for how PIO, who are US citizens, should apply for an Indian passport.

Does anyone know how that works in reverse? ie if someone has an Indian passport, can they apply for US citizenship as a part of the existing process or do they need to change their Indian citizenship status when they apply for/receive the US citizenship?

You automatically lose your Indian citizenship once you become a US citizen. New regulations allow you to apply for "Overseas Citizenship" from India. "OC" is not a full blown Indian citizenship and comes with many strings attached.
