hi, im brand new here, and i really wasnt sure where to post this question. i'm hoping i can be pointed in the right direction.

so, i'm a canadian born citizen, and i also have dual citizenship in america. my fiance is american. we want to get married down in the states, but i don't know what i need to do so that we can do that. i've been told i need a fiance visa, and that once we are married i need to stay in the states for a year, and cannot leave...even to come home to visit my family.

if i have my dual citizenship, would i still need a visa? if i don't need the visa, would i still not be allowed to leave the US for a year after?

another question...i am hoping to sponser him to come to canada. but he has a criminal record from a few years ago. what kind of paperwork do we need to fill out for this situation?

thanks in advance.
Jen

If you are a citizen of the US, then no visa is required. You are free to marry, work, cross the border etc just as any other American citizen is.

As for the criminal record question- Im afraid I cant answer that as the majority of the posts on this forum is for the immigration TO the US. Theres a sub forum for Canada so try posting your question there :)
