I remember that there was a discussion on this topic a while back. Does anyone know what the status for this issue is? Is the Indian government considering this proposal at all? Is there any prospect of this happening in the near future? please post your thoughts and comments on this topic here. Thanks.

I think the proposal was dropped. The only thing which came out of that was the PIO (Person of India Origin) card for $1000/-.

I checked the details of PIO card and found all the info I needed. so, for all practical purposes (except voting, political office etc) a PIO card for a person of Indian origin is like a **Indian-GC**, right? I was worried that a naturalised American citizen of Indian origin could not have unrestricted travel back to India, but, this PIO card puts those worries to rest. thanks.
