DS 230 Part II Question

Folks,

With regards to Qs 33a.

Have you ever applied for a Social Security Number (SSN)? If, answer is No, then

Do you want the Social Security Admin to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)?

I have a SSN with the INS employment restriction (just like a lot of people in the forum) and my wife does NOT have a SSN?

I guess for my wife I can say "Yes" to the above question as she would need a NEW SSN card. But for me, I do not want the SSN to issue me a NEW card as I want to keep my existing SSN number but at the same time I would like the Social Sec. Adm to remove the restriction on my card.

How do we indicate this on the form? How did you guys handle this??

Thanks

You and your wife,both will say 'Yes' to these questions. In your case they will issue a new card with the same number that you have now(and without the restriction). In your wife's case it would be new card/number.

Great! Thanks. I am guessing that you say this from experience... If not, please let me know if not so that i will keep looking for more answers from people who might have gone through the same process

As stated above you say "YES" in your indvidual forms of DS-230 Part I but in you case you will say YES to the "Have you ever applied for a Social Security Number (SSN)? " and write down you SSN in the space provided and in your wife's case(form ds-230 I) she wil say NO to the above question and leave the space blank where you entered the SSN.

We(me and my wife) did the same in our forms during our GC process hence it is our personal exp.

Thanks

Did you ever get the SSN? or went to the SSA office to get it?

{{I believe this Q is for me, so as I mentioned earlier I did go to SSN office for me and my wife and also I received a different SSN from the Immigrations which confused me and then the local SSN office took back the Immigration SSN numbers for me and my wife and I got the original one with no restriction and my wife got a new one from the local office.}}}
