DS-230 and SSN?

Does anyone remember this question on DS-230 form?

Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you a SSN and issue a card? (You must answer YES to question 43b. to receive a number and a card.)
Yes No

I put Yes on my form. Does it mean SSA will issue me a Social security card? I didn't get it. Do I have to apply to SSN when I get to States?

Please share your knowledge. Thank you

They won't start the SSN card process until you enter the States and activate your GC. Some people have successfully sped up the process by going to the local Social security office once they are there.
 
In theory you should get the card automatically but I wouldn't count on that an go asap to SSA after arriving in the US.
