Driving Test with no SSN?

Hey Guys (and Gals)..
I applied for SSN about 2 weeks ago using my iEAD which I also got about 2 weeks ago.

Even though the clerk was a real nice man he told me that SSA cannot give SSN # before veryifying my identity with INS. So he first checked the computer for my identity, and my brother's (who was also applying for SSN).. anyway both of our hits came up negative. He told me that he would have to mail SFO INS our info so that they could verify our identification..

About a week ago, I get a call from the CLERK saying that INS had updated my brother's recorords, and that he had his SSN#.. lucky him..

My issue: My Driving Test is scheduled for tommorow.... and I don't have a SSN, however the clerk was nice enough to print out a sheet stating that I applied for one. Will it work?

Did you wife get a temporary one (out of paper) or the "real deal" the laminated plastic card. Thanks.
 
The real deal...

I dont know where you are applying for the license but in Santa Clara, CA you just get a letter from SSA that no SSN can be issued to people on H4..and the DMV issues you with a random number in place of the SSN. Even now I believe my wife's DMV record has no SSN..I have yet to update it...will do that once we get our new SS card with "permitted to work with INS permission " sentence removed.

Simfox's problem is he does not have SSN and SSA can not give a letter that he can not have SSN though it is true that he does not have SSN but not having one and can not have one is different. So I doubt that SSA will give a letter to sim saying that he can not have SSN.
But Sim you can try to show that letter to DMV , I know now a days DMV does not listen any shit, they want every thing right.

Yeah, they accepted my story, that I had applied at SSA for SSN. The lady said that its okay, I will get the interim DL, but not the real one until I provide SSN.

However my horror driving test: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

It wasn't that bad, I did really well in the beginning, almost no points reduced. I wasn't even nervous.. HOWEVER..

The lady told me to park against the curb, I did a really SMOOTH manuever, right next to the curb.. The distance between the front and back tires to the curb was like 3 cm.. It was PERFECT>>> Then mY HORROR!

The lady told me to back up without touching the CURB.. and man.. if I turned the steering wheel a little right, the back tire would touch, and vice versa if I turned it left. Unfortunately, the back tires touched the curb, and I was disqualified right there :(

DAMN it.. why do I park so good!

Anyway, she told me that the next time I come I should bring my SSN.. and I hope INS hurries up to send my verification papers.
