Doubts about the Police certification & Fingerprintand their submission time

Hi eveybody,
I'm in the process of applying for canadian PR.I have a doubt regarding the police certificate and finger print.

I have applied for PC from india in the Indian embassy last week.They said I would get it in a month.

Now my doubts are:

1)what are the docs that I should submit in the first step?

2) Can i get the get the finger print card from the UPS store? Is it valid and is it same as the finger print card issued from the FBI?

I also came across a link for FBI form in this forum.http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/PDF/fpcardb.pdf.Can this form be printed and taken to the local police station?

3) Now what should I do after I get the finger print card? Should I Take the finger print card to the local police station in the US along with the letter "authorisation by visa applicant for release of police & court records)?

4) Once I give the finger print card to the Local police station,will they itself fowrd it for the FBI (or) should I do it?

5) If the local police station fowards my finger print to the FBI,will the FBI send the response directly to my address?

6) I'm planning to submit the first step of the applications next week..When is the right time to start approaching the local station ?

difference between police clearance and finger print

Also can somebody tell me the difference between the police clearance and the FBI finger print ?

What is the difference in the process of appying for these(meaning steps for applying for these)?

How long does it take for the police clearance to be issued from the US police station?


Can 401 K and bonds be shown as proof of funds ?

- Mahesh : Try to submit all the papers in advance, except medical report. This could save you time. If you are unable to send the FBI / Police CC, you can still send them the other papers, and in the meantime, apply for these clearance certificates.

- Mahesh : The above form is the right one, this is what they are looking for. From my experience, I live in Philadelphia and I went to a near by office of Immigration and Homeland Security and found few temporary carts who are doing fingerprinting, photos and all related services. I asked for the fingerprinting for Canadian Immigration and the person took out the form, after the verification of my identity, took fingerprints and gave you the form for posting it to the FBI. It actually took me just 15 mins in total to complete the process. If you live in a big city, you can give a try by visiting the local immigration office. Else you can look Yellow pages for the local fingerprinting agency and get finger printed.

Please make sure the following:

You are fingerprinted in the above form which you have included.
You get all the information filled before the fingerprinting.
You get the information written on the form of the agency who is fingerprinting.
Once the fingerprinting is done, you take the card and post it to FBI with the Moneyorder.
It took exactly 9 weeks for me to get the result.

-Mahesh : I hope all your previous questions have been answered by my 2nd answer.

-Mahesh: You better submit the application without police clearance and FBI fingerprint card, meanwhile apply immediately as I have mentioned and when you get a letter from the Canadian Consulate to submit these papers, go ahead and submit along with your medical report.

Police Clearance Certificate is the certificate you receive from the Government of India for the period you stayed since the age of 18. You have to apply to your nearest embassy and you can find out the information from my other thread at

FBI fingerprint card is for the person who is currently living in the United States. You have to contact the fingerprinting agency and get fingerprints done and send it to the FBI along with the moneyorder. This will take 8-10 weeks.

Who should send both Police CC and FBI card: The person, who lived in India after the age of 18 and who came to USA thereafter. PCC will give report from the date you stayed in India, while FBI will give you the report for your stay in USA.

Can 401 K and bonds be shown as proof of funds ?

I am not sure, but I guess, Bonds can be a proof of fund.

- Mahesh - As I said earlier, I was trying a lot of places like walmart, walgreens and so on, but none could match it up. It is better to find a small photo studio and ask for their help. I have done from the temporary cart, that stands beside the office of the Immigration and Homeland security in PHL and they do it so fast and they know the exact dimensions. If you could not find it, please make sure the following:

The height x width of the photo should be 45 x 35 mm
The head size (appeard on a white background) should be around 30 mm.
If you cannot do it, just tell any photographer who takes passport size photos with your head measuring around 30mm (little closer than actual passport size photo) and cut the photo to the dimension mentioned above.

NOTE: make sure that you have atleast 10-15 copies, so that you dont have to run from pillar to post incase of any additional photos in future.

- Mahesh - Yes, PCC is different from FBI finger print card.

Police CC should be received from India or Indian Embassy for the period you stayed after 18 years of age. Apply to Indian Embassy using Miscellaneous form.

FBI fingerprint card is different, the results are received from FBI for the period you stayed in United States of America. Contact a fingerprinting agency to get fingerprinted and send the card to FBI.
