Doubts about I-140 and further..

Got my EAD and AP, still waiting for I-140 with ND of 10/28/03. My company is planning to do my project from offshore and I may have to move there. They claim they will still keep my GC active. My questions are:

1. Can they keep my current I-485 or will they have to change it to consular processing ?
2. In case if I go back, can I quit my company after my I-140 is cleared and come back here using my AP and get a job using AC-21, will I need my employers help in that case?

---You can do both. You can leave with AP in hand and reenter before expiry of that AP (AP is valid for 1 year). Or you can change to CP.

---Yes you can come back on AP and use AC21. My advice would be to come back and then quit, rather than quitting before entering US. You do not need any help from employer. Just make sure the new job has the same or similar title and responsibilities.
