Hi I am a 3rd year J1 int med resident graduating June 30th 2006. J1 status valid untill Sep 30th 2006 for ABIM puposes (with grace period oct 30th 2006). DOS favorable recommendation issued on March 27th 2006 based on IGA request. Recommendation received with the USCIS on April 7th 2006 ( Have EAC # handy). Not from those "black listed countries". Wife finishing 2nd year int med on June 30th 2006 on J2 EAD. My concern is if my UCIS approval of J1 waiver is "stuck" or delayed duet to name check, security check etc beyond June 30th 2006, then my I wont be able to start my work (which is Ok as I will get time for my board in aug-sep '06) but my wife wont be able to obtain her H1B from the present program and will be forced to go on a sabbatical. Can senators/congressman/governor from IGA's geographic region make a difference (I know security chekc etc is a big issue!!). Any inputs. Thanks for listening. Also does anone know of H1B being approved for residency purposes without completion of USMLE step 3?
