Domestic Travel

Guys, I have a question about travel within USA by air (Say from New York to San Fransisco). Do we need to carry both passport and Green Card? Or is it sufficient to carry Green Card and Driver's License?

It would be tough to get the passport re-issued in case we loose it. So it would be wiser to carry only GC. But I am not sure if we will land in problems because of not carrying the Passport.

GC and DL is sufficient. By law, you have to carry GC.
You don't have to carry DL if you do not drive. But
DL is a better ID card than GC. Many people
dn't know what it when you show the GC to them.

DL should be enough - In most cases!

I think that having the DL is more important. As AmericanWannabe says, a lot of people may not even know what a GC is! DL is more universally recognizable.

However the above is based SOLELY on my travels during the last 8 years and my opinion. The law may state different requirements!

Good Luck!

Thanks guys...So, based on your experience, are you saying that no need to carry passport if we have GC and DL (on domestic fights)??

Law requires you to carry GC at all times. DL or passport is required wherever a "government issued ID is required". However DLs are now becoming a defacto ID card for status as well, because here in MN, all DLs renewed/issued new carry the expiry date of Visa. Thus very soon gc will become redundant within the state. As more states move to adding status information, GCs will become redundant. Coming back to your question, for now it is advisable to carry GC and DL for interstate travel.
