Doing summer internship in two different dates - will this affect my application?

Hi everybody,

I'm just about ready to file my form N-400. I've got it all filled out, I have all the necessary supporting documentation, all I need is the two photographs.

However, I just realized that there may be an issue. As of right now I live in Maryland (although I put down my mother's address for the Mailing Address since I'm gonna be moving around a bit in the next few months). In a couple weeks, I'm going to be working in Georgia for a month. After that, I'll be working in South Carolina for a month. I won't be back in Maryland until mid-August. However, I won't be making myself a resident of either of those states (in other words, I still have a lease in Maryland, my car will still be registered in Maryland, I'll still have a Maryland driver's license, etc).

Will this affect my application process? Should I even bother submitting my application now if it's going to get delayed? Should I just wait until I'm done with this internship and am back in Maryland?

The key is make sure those one-month assignments don't stop you from showing up for the fingerprinting and interview.

The fingerprinting should be about 3-5 weeks after you submit the application. So if you submit it now, you'll get the fingerprinting notice when you're in Georgia. The notice will state a location near(ish) to your residential address in Maryland, but you can get it done at a USCIS office anywhere else.

The interview could be as soon as 10 weeks after you file the application (although 3-5 months is more typical). It must be done at the location they specify, which will be somewhere near(ish) to your residential address in Maryland. So you'll want to time the application to ensure you're back in Maryland by the interview date.

Okay, thanks! So if I just bring my biometrics notice with me I can go to any office in GA? And as for the interview, is it possible to reschedule it once they issue the notice? I'll definitely be back within 3 months, but 10 weeks is probably going to be a no-go.

Yes, provided it's an office that does biometrics. Simply show up at the office with the notice; don't call in advance.

It is possible to reschedule, but that could result in unpredictable delays; the next date could be 1 month later or 6 months later. To avoid that, simply wait a couple weeks to apply instead of applying right now. If you apply in mid-June, the interview happen on or after late August, by which time you're already back in Maryland.

Okay, thanks a lot man. I'll probably mail it in late June or even July since I'll be going on a trip for a class right after my internship ends.
