Does this mean CP (and not AOS) ?

I had opted for AOS in I-140 and today I received the approval notice with following information: "We have sent it to the NVC. NVC processes all approved immigrant visa petitions that need consular action. It also determines which consular post is the appropriate consulate to complete visa processing. The NVC will then forward the approved petition to that consulate."

Does it mean that instead of my request for AOS, the INS approved it for CP? Can I now apply for AOS if visa is available as per the Visa Bulletin (DoS)?

Thank you.

No Title

Yes, you were approved for CP. To convert to AOS, just simply fill out the I-485 form for AOS. You do not need anything else. Good luck!

One more doubt, Marta!

Thank you, Marta - you just helped reduce my tension!

I have another doubt: As per the Feb 2002 DoS Visa Bulletin, the visa is available (current) to my category/country. Do I now straightaway file I-485 or do I need to wait until NVC notifies me of visa number?

Thank you.

Jigesh,

I do not know much about I-485 (I\'ve done CP) but from what I read and seen you can file your I-485 without any NVC notification if you are current. Please verify this at I-485 site since I do not have personal experience with this!

Marta is correct

Just file the I-485 and the service center will pull the file back (I\'ve heard that this may not be necessary but as a practical matter it makes little difference due to the normal processing times of I-485s right now) and process the file for AOS.
