Does the i485 welcome notice prove LPR status?

Hi all,

I received my welcome notice today and I am still waiting for my actual green card. Could the welcome notice serve as the proof of LPR status? The reason I am asking is that I am starting a new job soon and need to fill out my I9 (employment verification form) - I am wondering if I should say I am a permanent resident or an alien authorized to work (I have my EAD too).

Please help. Thanks.

You should say "Permanent Resident". If you have your passport stampted then that is by itself proof of your Permanent Resident Status. The Welcome letter by itself is not evidence of your status but, if necessary, you can use it too. If you have received your welcome letter today, you will receive your plastic card next week or so.

Thanks. My passport actually didn't get stamped...

If you have your welcome notice, I'm sure you go make an infopass appt and get your passport stamped (if required by your employer).

Otherwise, if they don't care, I'm sure it's ok. You are a permanent resident now :D

Thanks. I start on Monday and it's a little late to get the stamp now. :)
In any event, not a big deal because I will be able to work no matter what... I guess I will check with HR to see if they are fine with just the welcome notice...
