Does the government really take away a GC?

Does the government really take away a green card from a holder? Have there been such cases?

Besides serious felony crimes like murder, rape, etc. which I can understand, can they really take it away even if you get misdemeanors? I've even read that if you are involved with "illegal" gambling they can take it away. Say somehow they catch you betting with your local bookie or gambling online, they take it away?

Is it just a threat or do they really enforce this?

There are about 10000 GC revocations per year, according to USCIS statistics. They don't break it down the reasons.

I guess Most of them are due to staying outside USA for too long
