Does it really take a month to file for 485

Hi
I am trying to file for a 485 petition. I have provided all the documents to the lawyer and have done my medicals.
The attorney keeps on saying that there is a lot of paperwork and that it will take at least a month for him to file.
Am wondering if the process is really that lengthy. I even filled up all the forms myself and faxed them over so that they can create a copy.
Is this the norm?
Can I change my attorney at this stage? I am filing for an employer based petition. I140 was approved last week.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

depends on the lawyer

Most of these lawyer employ legal assts to do all the job. If the legal asst is new or inefficient, then these things happen.

About the question of whether you can go to a new lawyer, I definitely guess so. Technically, you can fire a lawyer any time you want.

Looking out for one does not hurt.

You would rather have the lawyer take time now and review the documents properly rather than getting RFE's later but a month is a little excessive.
Sure you can go with a different lawyer.

I agree with gc_arzoo. Its better to take sometime now rather than get a RFE later on. Its wise to be prudent especially since we all know how cocky INS is. I feel that my attorney is very good. She took a couple of weeks to review and file my AOS app.

Dont panic

I agree with the earlier suggestions. Let the lawyer take some time to review and file the papers rather than rushing them thru and getting RFE later.
My attorney took 1 month for me too. We cant keep on changing lawyers because they want to take couple of days more to review the docs right!!!
Just hold your horses you should be OK and welcome to the 485 forum.

Just give him some time specially at this stage. Ideally he should have completed evrything while your 140 was in process then u could have saved some time. But yeh if he still gives you hard time u can change the lawyer and get all ur original docs from him . Afterall you or you company must be paying him.

lawyer time

My Lawyer did everything himself. He is a very sharp lawyer and sent me 20 points of information that he wanted. It took me 10 days to arrange everything - medical, photos, etc etc

we took an appointment and went to his office. He filled all the info in his computer and generated all the papers with the help of his computer and software.

He made copies and asked me to go over them in the next two days and asked me to fax him if there were any errors or ommissions.

Once both of us were sure that the details were correct
He sent all papers to INS

My lawyer did not waste time - He is a very sharp attorney and charges quite a lot - but he does all the work himself, he is very very thorough and painstaking

I believe that this is the best method that You hire a sharp lawyer but he should give you copies to review so that this reduces the chance of errors.

when You have lawyer's assistants and many many cases being handled by a law firm this gives rise to a lot of delay

rsrgc, could you please give any contact info of your lawyer

your lawyer seems unbelievable. Please share his contacts, so that I have options of switching in future.
