does it really make sense to do FP early

Very good question.

One hopes that by doing FP (say) 2 weeks ahead of scheduled time, he/she will get approved 2 weeks ahead!

Problem is, since approval date is infinite, "infinity - 2 weeks" is still infinity. Besides, we've waited for almost 2 years. What's another 2 weeks...

So yeah, there is no point going early! We can at least save us the anxiety of guessing if the ASC officer will let us in or if "I'll be out of town" lie will work.

i agree with bajis

we all have been on line for years, who cares that two weeks, just follow their schedule (even i hate it)

my fp date is may 6, 2003, i will show up on time

Thats true!

I also agree with Bajis and Cplusplus.. It hardly makes any difference by getting approval couple of weeks before for all those folks who have been waiting for years at TSC. Lets hope TSC doesn't keep us in waiting forever even after we finish our FPs and make us do second FP as it happened with some of our GURUS who did FP twice.
