Does INS keep the 485 notice after PP stamping?

My wife and I got our passports stamped at Boston. The INS officer kept the original I-485 approval notices along with the other stuff like photos, EAD, parole etc. Is that normal?

Also how much time would it take to receive plastic cards after stamping?

Any help would be appreciated
 
yes thats normal. I had my pp stamped and they kept everything. Takes anywhere between a few days and few months to receive card.
