Hi y'all,
of of my friends called the german consulate to ask if he needs a visa in order to travel to germany, the answer was, this is new tavel document and we don't accept it, apparently like the french.
Is this true or just the consulat agent was having a bad day :-)

As always thanks guys.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I cannot get a national passport from my country of origin but I do hold a"US Permit to reenter". Can I use this permit to travel to Germany?

We expect you to submit your national passport. However, in rare instances, a"US permit to Reenter" can be accepted if it is evident that you cannot get a national passport from your country of origin. Please be informed that visa applications of "Permit to Reenter"-holders take about 7 days to be processed.

i called and they said as long as it says Refugee Travel document, they don't care what color it is. you still don't need a visa. if it is regular TD they accept it but a visa is required.

The problem is I don't think the new green color TDs that replaced the old blue RTDs indicate one is a Refugee, Asylee, or PR. One can only differentiate them by the validity date (1yr for Refugee or ASylee vs 2yrs for LPR) and the I number.

Hey cider_or,

I just applied for my RTD 2 weeks ago after I got adjusted to PR, since my orginal RTD had expired in October. One of the options to select on the I-131 form indicates that you are a PR as a result of having had aslyee or refugee status.

I received the receipt from Nebraska and they cashed my check, so I'd say that you can apply for an RTD after you get adjusted. I'm hoping that since my category has changed from asylee to LPR, the RTD will be valid for 2 years now. I am basing this on the fact that Returning Resident Permits are generally valid for 2 years. It would save me $110!

I hope this answered your question.

According to my understanding RTD validity is not affected by the individual status such as asylee, permanet resident etc. Even though I wish that my next RTD is valid for two years but I don't think it will happen.

On a different note, I did read some meeting minutes where someone from AILA had brought the RTD processing delay and suggested to extend the validity of RTD for two years. USCIS response was that Thank You for your suggestion and we will keep this in mind or something of that sort...

Regards,
