Does border security officers make changes on the 1-94 ?

Please help

I need to request the officers at the border security to change my in lwas visa class from B1 to B2 since they are here as a tourist ;
Do you think i will i need know anything before i approch them

If you had simmilar situation please share your experience

Was it a mistake or did your in-laws tell the officer they were on business? Were they given 6 months?

I believe it was a mistake from an officer; They told him that they are here to see places and spend time with family ; Inspite of that he gave them only 3months visa ; Don't know why ?

They do make corrections, but maybe the officer gave they 3 months because that is what they asked for or that is what the return ticket is.
