Does a letter from emeritus professor work?

I just received a reference letter from a big name of my field. However he mentions in the letter that he is an emeritus professor, which I did not know. And I guess that was why he didn't use the letter paper with official letterhead. I am wondering if this letter works. Thanks.

I see no reason why such a letter shouldn't help you in your petition. He is a independent scientist who evaluates your research and that's what you need

Thanks, honkman and NIW-Nov 04!

I guess it should work, as long as his CV is strong and he is still publishing in your field of expertise. I also got similar letters like you. It doesnt matter, although letters on letter head would look more attractive ;)
