Does a Canadian Citizen need H1 visa prior to applying for US green Card?

Dear All,

I am a Canadian Citizen and work here in the US on NAFTA. I hence do not need a H1 visa. Once a year I go to the border office to get my passport stamped.
Now, I decided to apply for a US green card. Do I need to get a H1 visa prior to applying for a green card via labor?
