Documents needed for visitor visa

I want to know what are the required documents, to apply for a visitor visa,
I want to bring my in laws into us for helping my wife during delivery,

Also, do i need to send them the actual ticket before they go for the interview, or i can take the ticket later after the visa is approved, would the consulate officer's insist on a actual ticket or not,
